his advanced course provides a technical deep dive into BMW Bosch MG1 ECU calibration and performance tuning using Bootmod3. The course focuses on understanding how the MG1 torque-based control strategy works and how different calibration maps interact to produce the final engine output. We cover the Torque & Load model, including Maximum Torque Limit, Optimal Reference Torque, Full Load Torque Limitation, Maximum Filling, Torque Monitoring and torque reduction strategies. You will learn how to identify which torque or load limiter is actually controlling the engine and how changes in one area affect the rest of the ECU strategy.A major section focuses on load and boost control. We analyse the relationship between requested torque, load targets, boost targets, boost setpoints, actual boost and wastegate duty cycle. The course explains how the MG1 ECU calculates the required airflow and boost and how to identify situations where the turbocharger, wastegate control or ECU limitations prevent the requested target from being achieved. We also cover fueling calibration, including Lambda Target, Lambda Limits, HPFP target and actual pressure, LPFP behaviour, injection timing and fuel delivery. Particular attention is given to interpreting fuel-pressure deviations and lambda behaviour under high load to determine whether the limitation is calibration-related or caused by the physical fuel system. The ignition calibration section covers Base Ignition Timing, ignition corrections, knock control and cylinder-specific corrections. We explain how load, intake-air temperature, fuel quality, boost pressure and combustion conditions influence ignition timing and how to use Bootmod3 logs to identify abnormal corrections.A significant part of the course is dedicated to Bootmod3 datalogging and log analysis. We work with parameters such as:

RPM

Load Target / Actual

Torque Target / Actual

Boost Target / Actual

Boost Setpoint

WGDC

Lambda Target / Actual

HPFP Target / Actual

LPFP pressure

Ignition timing

Cylinder-specific ignition corrections

Throttle angle

MAF / airflow

IAT

Fuel trims

Torque intervention parameters

Instead of simply increasing boost or torque limits, the course teaches you how to read the ECU's decisions through the logs and determine why the requested performance is or isn't being achieved. We also demonstrate a structured iterative tuning workflow:Baseline → Datalog → Identify Limitation → Calibrate → Flash → Datalog → Analyse → RefineThis approach allows you to make controlled calibration changes while understanding their effect on torque production, airflow, boost control, fueling and ignition.
Course Topics

BMW Bosch MG1 ECU architecture

MG1 torque-based control strategy

Bootmod3 tuning workflow

Torque & Load modelling

Maximum Torque Limits

Optimal Reference Torque

Full Load Torque Limitations

Torque Monitoring

Torque intervention strategies

Maximum Filling / Relative Filling

Load Target vs. Load Actual

Boost Target / Setpoint / Actual

Wastegate Duty Cycle

Boost control strategies

Turbocharger airflow limitations

Lambda Target and Lambda Limits

HPFP / LPFP calibration and analysis

Injection timing and fuel delivery

Base Ignition Timing

Knock control and ignition corrections

Cylinder-specific ignition analysis

IAT-related corrections and protections

Bootmod3 datalogging

RAM channel analysis

Log-based troubleshooting

Identifying active ECU limiters

Iterative calibration methodology

Real-world BMW MG1 tuning examples

The goal is not simply to teach you which values to change, but to understand why the MG1 ECU changes its behaviour, which control strategy is responsible, and how to calibrate the system around real-world data.
